About Dr. David Lesch
Dr. David Lesch is the Ewing Halsell Distinguished Professor of History at Trinity University and a leading authority on Middle East history. He earned his Ph.D. in Middle East History from Harvard University and has authored 17 books on Middle East topics, contributing to over 140 publications.
Dr. Lesch has served as an advisor to the White House under four presidential administrations, from President George W. Bush to President Biden, and has counseled high-level officials in Europe, the Middle East, and the United Nations. His insights have been featured in national and international news, and he has appeared in over 15 documentaries. Between 2004 and 2009, Dr. Lesch regularly met with former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, aiming to foster U.S.-Syrian relations.
Beyond academia, Dr. Lesch was the #1 draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1980 baseball draft. His professional baseball career ended due to a rotator cuff injury, leading him to pursue his extraordinary career in Middle East affairs.
A biography of his life, Dodgers to Damascus: David Lesch’s Unique Journey from Baseball to the Middle East, by Catherine Nixon Cooke, will be published by Trinity University Press in 2025.
